Rutgers University Alumni Wind Symphony 25th Anniversary

The Band

Our ensemble consists of woodwinds including flutes and piccolo, single and double-reed, a variety of brass instruments and percussion. If desired, members may also flex their conducting muscles by volunteering to rehearse and conduct pieces of their choice in any given semester.

Our Conductor

Nicholas Santoro

Nicholas Santoro was appointed Musical Director of the Alumni Wind Symphony in the spring of 2002. He serves as Director of Fine Arts for the South Orange-Maplewood School District and as an Adjunct Instructor for Music Education for the Mason Gross School of the Arts. Mr. Santoro graduated Rutgers College in 1973 with a BA in Music and earned a Master in Music Education from Trenton State College. He served as a staff arranger for the Rutgers University Marching Band from 1972-1980 and is a Founding Brother of Mu Upsilon Alpha, the service fraternity of the Rutgers University Bands. He is founder and conductor for the Central Jersey Wind Ensemble and is very active in Music Education activities in the State. He is the current president of the New Jersey Music Educators Association and has been guest conductor for many honors groups in the state, including the NJ All-State Brass Ensemble and the Rutgers High School Honors Band.
